Scanner recently returned from a trip to the Netherlands and several projects with Philips Design. This is one such example of the work.

Tattoos and physical mutilation are amongst the oldest forms of personal expression and identity. Subcultures have used tattoos as a form of self representation; a visual language communicating personality and status. Philips Design examined the growing trend of extreme body adornment like tattoos, piercing, implants and scarring.

The Electronics Tattoo film expresses the visual power of sensitive technology applied to the human body. The film subtly leads the viewer through the simultaneous emotional and aesthetic transformations between two lovers.

liquid space with Diesel

Diesel recently presented their Liquid Space fashion show in Florence, Italy. It featured amazing projections that looked almost holographic, moving up and down the catwalk.

A translucid screen along one of the sides of the runway, allowed the audience to see the models and the floating graphics from both sides. Diesel Creative Director, Wilbert Das, teamed up with Danish based video technology studio, Vizoo and Barcelona based mograph studio Dvein to put together this one of a kind show.

Brian Eno’s 77 million paintings

The North American premiere of 77 Million Paintings was presented by San Francisco’s Long Now Foundation, an art collective established to pursue projects promoting a “slower and better” worldview. The show is one of Eno’s “generative” works. He loads his images and sounds onto a computer, which plays them back randomly as an infinite set of permutations – hence the title.

The audio-visual installation, 77 Million Paintings, has been shown in various forms in Venice, Tokyo and London. The San Francisco installation is the largest yet.

Personally I hope this comes back to the UK as it’s something I am very interested in seeing and developing my systems close to it for performance. It is reassuring to know there is an audience for this type of work, of this size.

Using LED glowsticks, flashlights, even fireworks, combined with time-lapse photography, light graffiti artists create a unique tagging that wraps around objects dimensionally, allowing them to tag in a way they’d never be able to with spraypaint.

I love Svankmajer’s work. Ever since I randomly picked up Alice about 4 years ago. His version of Faust is very good as well. Should really look to getting myself some DVDs of these.

I think that this piece has a clear message, with a superb delivery. Check out Alice; best version of Lewis Carroll’s novel I’ve seen adapted.

It’s Monday. It’s muggy but grey and overcast. And I feel as fresh as I always do at this time of the week.

Been meaning to get myself a proper blog for a while. If only to increase my internet ego and have yet another place to let my random outbursts of dribble I don’t want my missus to bear witness to.

Primary use for this blog joint thang is to present the cool, subjective of course, things I come across in my day to day work avoiding forum whoring. I lose track of some of the more interesting stuff I find. Get interrupted with having to do my actual job.

Yea. You all know how it is.

Anyways. Let’s see how this thing develops.
